Review: Creative Hand lettering kit

Dit is al weer een tijd geleden dat ik een review heb gedaan. Daarom ben ik even langs de Action geweest. Daar kreeg ik een aantal leuke spulletjes, waaronder de Creative Hand Lettering Kit van RT Beheer BV voor €3,49. || Since I didn't do a review for quite some time I felt it needed to be done. I bought some products from Action including the Creative Hand Lettering Kit by RT Beheer BV. The cost: €3,49.

Hier kan ik lekker mee spelen en leuke creaties uitdenken.... // I am sure I will have loads of fun with this kit....

De kit komt in een kartonnen doos. Achterop staat vermeld wat er allemaal inzit zoals: // The kit comes packaged in a cardboard box. The contents are listed on the back of the packaging:

=== Algemene opmerkingen // General remarks ===

Nou ben ik de inhoud nagegaan, en dit verschilt wel met wat er werkelijk meegeleverd wordt. Kan zijn dat dit alleen mijn doos is, en dat dit bij andere verpakkingen wel goed gegaan is. // After I checked the content, I found that not everything is as noted on the back of the packaging. It could be once off difference and your kit may be different.

Ik heb namelijk alleen vier witte dubbele kaarten en voor het karton klopt de hoeveelheid wel, maar de grootte niet. Dit is namelijk 14,8 x 21 cm. // In my kit I only had 4 white card bases, and though the count of the card stock is correct there is a difference in the size. For my box it is 14,8 x 21 cm.

Ook is er geen vermelding van de grafiet potlood die meegeleverd is. Maar die zit er wel in. // Though not mentioned on the back of the packaging, a graphite pencil is included.

De instructies komen met een aantal voorbeelden en inspiratie maar dit stelt eigenlijk niks voor. // The instruction is filled with some examples and inspiration, but it is not that impressive.

=== Tests ===

Voor de eerste test heb ik het notitieboekje gebruikt. // I will be doing most of the tests in the note book.

Hier volgt het voorbeeld wat ik gemaakt heb met daarna mijn bespreking van de producten. // First I will share the example and then I will share my comments. 

Allereerst heb ik de schets gedaan met het potlood en toen met de fineliner overgenomen. // I used the graphite pencil to draw a draft and then traced it with the fine liner.

Grafiet potlood & Gum // Graphite pencil and eraser

Het potlood komt ongeslepen. Dus even mijn eigen puntenslijper genomen. Met de eerste slijpsessie brak de punt. Ik dacht, dit wordt niks. Maar met de tweede probeersel ging het goed. De punt is zacht en makkelijk te wissen. // The pencil is unsharpened. While sharpening the pencil the point broke. At first I was disappointed but with the second round all went well. The graphite is soft and easy to erase.

De gum is echt zacht. Persoonlijk vind ik een zachte gum beter dan een harde, omdat dit minimale schade op het papier aanbrengt. Ook op papier met structuur zoals cold press aquarelpapier heeft een zachte gum betere resultaten omdat dit tussen de structuur kan wissen. // The eraser is also very soft. Not a problem as I find a soft eraser far better than the normal eraser. It comes in handy when you draw on structured paper like cold press water color paper. 

Fineliner

De fineliner is driehoekig en ligt ergonomisch in de hand. Het heeft een hele fijne punt. De dop werkt met klik systeem en kan ook achterop de pen. // The fine liner fits ergonomically in the hand due to the triangular shape. The top clicks into place and could also be fitted on the back.  

De inkt droogt snel, maar reageert wel met water of iets zoals Wink of Stella glitter pennen. // The pen is filled with fast drying ink, but it reactivates with water or pens like Wink of Stella glitter pens.

Notitieboek // Note book

Zoals ik al zei, het papier is erg prettig om op te schetsen. De inkt van de fineliner droogt snel zodat dit niet smeert wanneer je met de gum erover heen gaat. // I already mentioned, the paper is nice for drawings. Also the fast drying ink doesn't smear when you use the eraser.

Maar het paper is wel erg dun. Als je de penseelstift gebruikt is mijn aanbeveling om een extra papier eronder te leggen zodat de inkt niet doorlekt naar de volgende pagina. Met de volgende afbeelding zie je wat ik bedoel. // The paper is thin. My suggestion is to place a piece of paper under the page you are working on as the ink from the brush pen will bleed to the next page. The next image is an example of the bleeding.

Dit is de achterzijde van het papier. Gelukkig kwam ik er snel achter en heb een papier er tussen gedaan. // This is the back of the paper. Luckily I check and placed a piece of paper under de page I was working on.

Penseelstift // Brush pen

De penseelstift heeft een langere viltpunt. Ik zie wel dat de punt snel in een zekere vorm gaat staan en veert niet geheel terug naar de juiste positie. Dus moet je de punt iedere keer op een ander gedeelte gebruiken. // The brush pen is a longer felt point. Try to turn the pen every time you use it, as it does not keep it's original shape. 

De inkt is een dye inkt op waterbasis. Dit kan dus vlekken als dit op kleding of op je huid komt. // The brush pen is filled with a water based dye ink. It could stain your clothes or fingers.

Ook hier geldt dat de inkt reageert met water of pennen soortgelijk aan Wink of Stella brush pens. De volgende afbeelding dient als voorbeeld hiervan. // The same as with the fine liner, the same is be said about reactivating the ink with water or pens like Wink of Stella brush pens.

Voor mijn tweede voorbeeld heb ik een kaart gemaakt die ik al en keer als bestelling heb gemaakt.  Eerst heb ik alles geschetst met het grafiet potlood, daarna overgenomen met de fineliner en gekleurd met kleurpotloden. // For my next example I remade a card I designed for a client. First I drew the image, traced it with the fineliner and colored it with color pencils. 

De tekst heb ik eerst met het potlood gedaan en toen overgenomen met de fineliner en daarna alleen de afwaartse lijnen overgenomen met de penseelstift. Vervolgens heb ik dit even bijgewerkt met de fineliner. // I wrote the text with the graphite pencil, traced it with the fine liner, thickened the downward strokes with the brush pen, and filled in uneven lines with the fine liner.

Voor mijn derde voorbeeld heb ik gewerkt op een craft cadeauzakje. Hier heb ik hetzelfde gedaan als bij het tweede voorbeeld, maar heb ik de tekst alleen met de penseelstift gedaan. Ik vind dat ik hier minder succes had met de druk op de punt. // The next example is a gift bag. I followed all the steps as with the other two examples, but the traced the text with only the brush pen. I find this method no succes as I had difficulty with the pressure on the point.

=== Mijn bevindingen / My conclusion ===

Ik zelf ben weg van hand lettering en om zelf te schetsen. Daarom wilde ik deze kit testen. // I love hand lettering and drawing, therefor I just had to test this kit.

De kit is wel een beetje duurder dan de normale producten bij de Action, maar als je schoolgaande kinderen hebt of zelf ook een hobbyist bent, dan weet je dat een potlood, liniaal, gum en stift al over de €5,- zijn. Daarbij krijgt je ook nog papier mee wat ook nogal duur kan uitwerken. Dus de prijs valt al reuze mee. // The kit is a bit more expensive than the normal hobby products found at the Action, but if you have children who attend school, or you are a hobbyist yourself, you know that you will pay about €5,- or more for a pencil, ruler, eraser and marker. Adding paper to the mix and you will pay much more. Personally I feel the price is just right.

De pennen doen wat ze moeten doen. Ik vond dit prettig om er mee te werken. // I found the pens nice to work with.

Daar zijn weinig minpunten. Buiten voor het dunne papier in het notitieboek, en de punt van de penseelstift vind ik dit een super kit en kan dit echt aanbevelen.  // Except for the thin papers in the note book and the marker point, I find it super kit to practice with and can definitely give it a thumbs up.
